Among the various reveals at this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed, the folks at Ford showed off an upcoming variant of its battery-electric Mustang Mach-E. Aptly dubbed the Ford Mustang Mach-E Rally, this battery-electric crossover takes some inspiration from stage-rally styling to give it an off-road edge. The Mach-E variant was still wearing camouflage to hide any of its styling changes.
Just like the camouflage covering, the company has kept any modifications to its chassis or powertrain close to the chest. While the Mustang Mach-E is available in rear- and all-wheel-drive variants, we'd almost expect the Rally variant to sport the dual-motor all-wheel-drive system.
Ford currently offers three dual-motor systems. The standard-range all-wheel-drive system probably won't be on the Rally's menu, with its smaller battery and 266 hp. From there, the extended-range AWD system sends 346 hp and 428 lb-ft of torque to the wheels. The GT's system goes further and shoves 480 hp and 600 lb-ft of torque to the wheels. We're hoping the team at Ford leans on its Mach-E GT's powertrain to throw as much gravel around as possible.
Considering this new Mach-E variant is inspired by stage rally, there are probably going to be even more modifications. We're expecting some extra underbody protection and maybe some suspension magic to help the Mach-E Rally live up to its name. What we can see from the images is that this Mach-E variant is riding on a set of OZ Racing-style rally wheels, which helps with the whole rally styling. There's also an extra set of lamps poking through the grille, which might help you tackle that nighttime special stage or your early-morning commute.
Again, Ford hasn't released any concrete details about this new Mustang Mach-E but does note that it's going to be available for order in the fall. The company also notes that the car is going to be available first in the U.S. and Europe, which means other markets are likely to follow. Still, we're looking forward to knowing more details about this latest Mach-E.
